ITALY - These are the most dangerous motorways

Every year, the "Automobil Club Italia" publishes the accident map of Italy: Where are the most dangerous motorways in the country, on which country roads do most accidents happen, where is it risky for scooter riders. In its accident statistics, the ACI evaluates the figures from the previous year.

The national average for motorway accidents is 1.03 accidents per kilometre. However, the motorway stretches that run through the major Italian cities are extremely prone to accidents due to the large number of vehicles and heavy traffic:

Dangerous city highways

On the A1 junction Capodichino in the province of Naples therefore have many more accidents, exactly 8.1 per kilometre. On the Northern bypass of Milan in the Monza/Brianza section But on the other hand, it rattles even more often - exactly 8.8 times per kilometre. The most dangerous, however, is the Urban motorway A24 Rome-Teramo. Here, 10 (!) accidents happen per kilometre.

The Italian "Strada Statale

A maximum of 90 km/h is permitted on Italian federal roads (abbreviation SS). The national average accident rate here is half an accident per kilometre. On the three most dangerous state roads in the country, however, the situation is different: On the State road 719 Prato-Pistoia 8 accidents occur per kilometre, on the State road 36 Lake Como and Spluga 6.9 accidents and on the State road 671 near Bergamo 6 accidents.

The most dangerous routes for two-wheelers include the ring road around Rome, the SS 601 Ostia-Anzio in the municipality of Rome, also the SS 007 Via Appia in the municipality of Terracina, the SS 016 Adriatica in the municipality of Bari and the SS 018 Tirrena-Inferiore in the municipality of Vietri.

The SS 001 Aurelia in the province of Savona, the SS 002 Cassia and the SS 006 Casilina in the province of Rome and the SS 0016 Adriatica in the province of Rimini are also conspicuous as dangerous stretches with many accidents....
