The Kneipp facility in the Annatal
South Tyrol is famous for its three-thousand-metre peaks, speck and Lagrein – but the fact that you can also enjoy Kneipp treatments here for free is hardly known.
When you think of South Tyrol, you think of the Dolomites, alpine meadows and Törggelen evenings with a bit too much red wine. The fact that the region also boasts one of the highest concentrations of Kneipp facilities in Italy comes as a surprise even to die-hard South Tyrol fans. Kneipp facilities, which are freely accessible, have been set up along hiking trails, in nature parks and on village promenades. Five particularly beautiful ones:
Truden in the Trudner Horn Nature Park
Right in the heart of the nature park, surrounded by spruce trees and tranquillity, lies one of the region’s newest Kneipp trails. A cold shower, foot baths, arm baths, a facial basin – it’s all there, and it’s all free. Right next to it is a playground featuring forest animal motifs. Children run about, whilst parents dip their legs in the water. Family holidays rarely get any better than this.

Ratschings: Barefoot at 1,400 metres
Start near the Hotel Larchhof, heading towards Flading, take off your shoes – and off you go. The barefoot trail in Ratschings in the Upper Eisack Valley is 400 metres long and the surface changes constantly: gravel, moss, wood, wet stone. What sounds like torture is actually a sensory trail that awakens your feet. All at an altitude of 1,400 metres, with views of the Dolomites to boot.
The Angel’s Flight Across the Valley
Margreid on the Wine Route
Vineyards, apple orchards, and right in the middle of it all, the Fenner stream – once wild, now tamed, and since 2018 serving the cause of health. It feeds three Kneipp pools for feet and arms. After a cycle ride through the Unterland, this is the best reward – one that no cyclist’s beer can replace.
Völser Weiher in the Schlern-Rosengarten
This mountain lake is steeped in myths and legends, and features a Kneipp trail along its shore. Nestled in the Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park, it looks as if it were painted. It was here that the tradition of hay baths was invented; a sense of well-being has a long history in this area.

Vahrn near Brixen: The Original
One of South Tyrol’s oldest Kneipp facilities is situated on the Schalderer Bach near Vahrn, right next to Brixen. Crystal-clear mountain water, a sunbathing lawn and a few pieces of fitness equipment. If you like, you can stay there all afternoon. Admission: zero euros.
See you soon, South Tyrol.
