Italy: Is nudism allowed at all?
One thing first: Italy is NOT a (classic) naturist paradise. Strictly speaking, even "topless" is not allowed on the beach - but this is usually tolerated. The majority of nude beaches are only tolerated and dependent on the goodwill of the local government in office.
In short: naturism is not allowed in Italy, but is tolerated in some areas.
Local fines for naturist offences can be hefty - up to 10,000 euros per person. In reality, the courts often suspend the penalties.
The regional newspaper "Il Tirreno" reported about five Italians who took off their clothes at the (tolerated) nudist beach near Castagneto Carducci (near Livorno). Other guests felt disturbed and called the police. Fine per person: 3,333 euros.
In fact, more than half a million Italians are nudists. The industry has a turnover of around 60 million euros. According to naturist associations, the potential would be many times higher if Italy were not so shy about naturism.

The largest naturist beach in Italy
Probably the largest naturist area in Italy, it is also (officially) one of the most beautiful beaches in the country. The Lido di Dante is located near Ravenna. The nudist area is in front of a camping site, which is also accessible to outsiders.
The outcry was great when the local government in office at the time imposed a ban on nudity a few years ago. But that only lasted for a short time.

Golden sand, kilometres of expanse - part of the dream beach in Bibione (Veneto) is designated as a nudist area. The nude part is located between the harbour entrance and the lighthouse, shielded by dunes to the rear. Bibione is one of the most famous nude beaches in Italy.

Nudism in Puglia
Almost a dinosaur among nude beaches in Italy: Torre Guaceto has been visited by nudists for a quarter of a century (tolerated by the local government). The beach is located in the WWF nature reserve. Fine, white sand, shallow, warm water - fantastic!

Nudism in Calabria
Quasi-Caribbean conditions for naturists: the sea at the official nude beach of Pizzo Greco gets up to 25 degrees in summer. Crystal-clear water, reddish-brown sand, the beach slopes gently into the sea. The name of the place is just as beautiful and flowery: Isola di Capo Rizzuto. Calabria, the pearl of the Mediterranean.
In the high season there is a beach bar on site. A nudist campsite is located directly by the sea.

Naked on Elba
Beach of the Acquarilli: the first official naturist beach on the island since 2016. Caution: The sand consists of small black stones that get very hot in the sun. Bring a parasol and something to drink. The path to the sea is very steep, with a gradient of about 100 metres.
