Anyone who thinks that you have to go to Colorado for real whitewater rafting has obviously never been to the Aosta Valley.

Between snow-capped peaks, dense forests and charming Alpine villages, the Dora Baltea meanders through the valley - a river that may seem harmless at first glance, but which harbours a real natural adventure beneath the surface. The Dora Baltea is the beating heart of Italian white water sports - sometimes calm, sometimes raging, with rapids, jumps and small waterfalls. For many, it is considered the "Colorado of Europe".

The beautiful Aosta Valley

A river with character

The Dora Baltea rises from Mont Blanc and carries glacier water - clear, cold and powerful. The further it flows into the valley, the livelier its character becomes. In total, around 17 kilometres of the river have been opened up for rafting. Some sections are only suitable for advanced rafters, while others are wonderfully calm. The alternation of leisurely and challenging passages is what makes it so appealing and an unforgettable experience between adventure and enjoyment of nature.

Suitable for beginners and families

You don't have to be an extreme athlete to conquer the Dora Baltea. Many sections of the river are calm and easy to navigate - perfect for anyone getting into a boat for the first time. Specialised rafting centres in the Aosta Valley offer various tours - from gentle beginner routes to wild stages with plenty of adrenaline. The route is customised - depending on experience level, age and thirst for adventure.

You can get everything you need on site

Sounds exciting, but you don't have the right equipment? No problem. The providers provide everything you need: A wetsuit, helmet, life jacket, waterproof jacket, shoes and, of course, a paddle. Depending on the tour, there is room for four to seven people in a boat - including the guide. A short introductory course is always included before you set off. Rafting originated in the USA in the 1950s, but only came to Italy in the 1980s. Today, it is one of the most popular outdoor activities in the region.
