The average Italian is 46.8 years old. The average age is highest in Liguria and Veneto, at just over 49 years and 48 years respectively. Campania is home to the youngest people in Italy, 43 years young on average, with Trentino-Alto Adige right behind at 44.
Sardinia is a special case. The mountain villages in the east are home to the highest number of 100-year-olds in the world, relatively speaking. The riddle of the Sardinians' long life is still unsolved today. Even in the national average of Italy's population, Sardinia ranks third among the oldest regions with just under 48 years.
