Look! - The most beautiful beaches in Italy

More than 7,500 kilometres of coastline, almost 500 lakes: Italy spoils us with a wide selection when it comes to the sea and bathing. "The country's most beautiful beaches" - our new series

Beaches in Italy are like food: There is so much delicious, pardon beautiful choice that you don't know what to try first, rather where to get into the water first.

Italy's officially most beautiful beaches are awarded the "Bandiera Blu" every year. The prestigious award is given by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) worldwide.

Italy has the most beautiful beaches

Italy is the world leader: 10 per cent of the total "Bandiera Blu" awarded in 2022 will go to the bel paese. In addition to all European countries, 48 countries outside Europe are also examined.

210 seaside resorts in Italy - 17 of them on lakes - have been awarded this year. A total of 427 beaches were certified in these resorts. (Most of the time a place has more than one beach).

What is evaluated?

There are 32 categories for the "Bandiera Blu" award - from water quality, cleanliness and cleaning, pedestrian zones, cycle paths and environmental protection. Sustainable tourism is the focus here.

Beaches in series

The most beaches with "Bandiera Blu" are in Liguria (32 in total), the fewest in Lombardy and Molise ( 1 each).

By the way, the famous beach of Polignano a Mare has not received any award
