Grammar is good. But music is better. Anyone learning Italian knows that there is no better way to learn the language than through Italian songs. They're fun, stick in your head - and help you learn vocabulary, develop a feel for the language and take cultural excursions from the sofa.

The melodies are catchy and automatically help to internalise difficult expressions and irregular verbs in a way that feels completely natural. The songs also give you direct access to different dialects and regional accents, which improves your overall understanding of the language. Here are ten songs that will improve your Italian - and touch your heart:

A true classic from the 1960s, written by Paolo Conte and sung by Italy's cult entertainer Adriano Celentano. The contrast between the cheerful-sounding melody and the rather sad content is what makes the song so special.
