Verlassen, verfallen, verflucht? <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:17px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Was heute aussieht wie ein \u00fcberwucherter <a href=\"https:\/\/la-bella-vita.club\/italiens-geisterdoerfer-wo-das-leben-stehen-blieb-und-du-heute-noch-spuren-findest\/\">Lost Place<\/a>, war einst ein Ort des Sterbens, des Leidens \u2013 und der Angst. Das Betreten ist offiziell nicht erlaubt \u2013 die Insel steht unter staatlicher Kontrolle. Wer trotzdem hinf\u00e4hrt, tut dies illegal oder mit einer der wenigen Ausnahmegenehmigungen. Nur rund 7,5 Hektar ist die Insel gro\u00df \u2013 und doch tr\u00e4gt sie mehr Geschichte in sich als manch venezianischer Palast. Bereits im Mittelalter wurde sie bewohnt, fiel jedoch immer wieder Katastrophen und politischen Wirren zum Opfer. Seit Jahrhunderten haftet ihr ein Ruf des Unheils an \u2013 und dieser hat mit der Pest begonnen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Denn als die gro\u00dfe Seuche Europa im 16. Jahrhundert heimsuchte, wurde Poveglia zur Quarant\u00e4nestation. Die venezianische Republik hatte erkannt, wie gef\u00e4hrlich der Handel mit dem Orient sein konnte \u2013 und lie\u00df potenziell Infizierte auf Inseln wie Poveglia isolieren. Tausende starben hier, oft in Massenlagern, ohne medizinische Hilfe, fern ihrer Familien. Man begrub sie vor Ort, verbrannte Leichen \u2013 oder lie\u00df sie schlicht liegen. Jahrhundert wurde die Insel offiziell zum \u201eLazzaretto nuovo\u201c erkl\u00e4rt, einer Art Gesundheitsstation f\u00fcr Seuchenkranke. Wer aus verd\u00e4chtigen Gebieten kam \u2013 etwa dem Nahen Osten, Nordafrika oder S\u00fcdfrankreich \u2013, wurde hier untergebracht. Die Geb\u00e4ude, die man damals errichtete, stehen zum Teil noch heute: das Hauptgeb\u00e4ude der Quarant\u00e4nestation, der Glockenturm der ehemaligen Kirche San Vitale und einige Wirtschaftsgeb\u00e4ude.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">1793 wurde ein Gedenkstein errichtet \u2013 mit der lateinischen Inschrift: <em>\u201eNe fodias \u2013 vita functi contagio requiescunt\u201c<\/em>, sinngem\u00e4\u00df: \u201eGrabe nicht \u2013 hier ruhen die an Ansteckung Verstorbenen\u201c. Was genau hinter den Mauern geschah, ist nicht dokumentiert \u2013 aber lokale Erz\u00e4hlungen berichten von Misshandlungen, Experimenten, Lobotomien. Ein Arzt, so die Legende, habe selbst den Verstand verloren und sich vom Turm gest\u00fcrzt. Ob das stimmt? Niemand wei\u00df es. Aber das Bild brennt sich ein.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Seit der Schlie\u00dfung des Krankenhauses 1968 verf\u00e4llt die Insel. Die Geb\u00e4ude stehen leer, Fenster sind zerbrochen, B\u00e4ume wachsen durch Dachst\u00fchle. Betreten ist offiziell verboten \u2013 nicht nur wegen Einsturzgefahr, sondern auch wegen ihres Rufs: Die \u201eIsola dei Morti\u201c, wie sie manche nennen, gilt bis heute als verflucht. Paranormale Fernsehteams haben sie besucht, YouTuber heimlich gefilmt. Mindestgebot: 10.000 Euro. Es war ein Experiment, ein Versuch, einen problematischen Ort in Wert zu setzen. Doch als Unternehmer Luigi Brugnaro (sp\u00e4ter B\u00fcrgermeister von Venedig) 513.000 Euro bot, lehnte der Staat ab \u2013 zu niedrig, zu wenig Potential. Gleichzeitig gr\u00fcndete sich die Initiative <em>Poveglia per tutti<\/em> (\u201ePoveglia f\u00fcr alle\u201c) mit dem Ziel, die Insel zu erhalten und \u00f6ffentlich zug\u00e4nglich zu machen. Bis heute ist nichts daraus geworden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-was-bleibt\">Was bleibt?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poveglia bleibt ein Ort des Schreckens \u2013 und der Spekulation. Historiker sehen darin ein Mahnmal gegen das Vergessen, Touristen einen Lost Place mit G\u00e4nsehautgarantie. F\u00fcr die Venezianer:innen selbst aber ist die Insel vor allem eines: ein blinder Fleck in der Lagune. Zu nah, um sie zu ignorieren.
