FRIAUL-JULIAN-VENETIA - Free train tickets with booking

With 19 million visitors a year, Venice is one of the most visited cities in the world, but hardly anyone knows the region next door. Friuli Venezia Giulia is almost still an insider tip in northern Italy. Until May 2023, the region is therefore making guests an enticing - and environmentally friendly - offer...

Venice: From 2023 only with ticket

Nature, culture, mangiare: Friuli Venezia Giulia offers the full programme. Mountains, foothills of the Alps, long flat sandy beaches and wide lagoons. Due to its location in the north-east of the country, the influences of the neighbours Austria and Slovenia can also be felt here, in language, buildings and regional cuisine.

On the one hand, the region is very Italian in character; on the other hand, Alpine charm and Slavic down-to-earthness are not to be overlooked. The capital of the region, Trieste, is a melting pot of cultures, an elegant port city where life pulsates. Under Austrian influence, cosy coffee houses in the K. &. K. tradition such as the Caffé degli Specchi.

Travel by train free of charge

The region wants to attract visitors with an environmentally friendly offer until the end of May. Those who book at least two nights in the cities of Trieste or Udine, or on the coast in Grado and Lignano Sabbiadoro, can travel free of charge by train within Italy.. Also included in the booking is the "FVG Card", with which you can use public transport for free, visit monuments and museums for free or cheaper.

The action is a joint action of the Tourism Authority of the Region and Trenitalia. The aim is to promote green tourism in the region and also the joy of train travel.

P.S. Savers are probably already starting to do the maths: You can probably save the most money if you travel from Sicily. From Catania, a return train ticket to Trieste would cost about 200 euros, from Rome about 100 euros.
